Veterans
South Coast Warrior Program for Veterans
Our program combines evidence-based treatment for veterans such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). For veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), we also deploy three of the most effective treatments: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy.
We also recognize the power of stress-reducing activities that provide calming relief. Therefore, we include Animal-Assisted Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Breathwork to aid in your peace.
If you’re a veteran seeking sobriety, relief, and recovery, our program is perfect for you. We provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can embrace treatment and distance yourself from stressors, triggers, and discomfort, while receiving outstanding care.
Tricare-Covered Veterans are Eligible to Get Treatment at South Coast Counseling if:
- You have Tricare (West Region); and
- You have more than a 30-minute average drive time for mental health treatment or a 60-minute average drive time for specialty care*; or
- You have more than a 20-day wait for mental health care, and non-institutional extended care services, unless the Veteran agrees to a later date in consultation with their VA health care provider. For instance, if you are a Veteran and live 10 miles from the nearest VA primary care provider, but it takes you over an hour to drive there on average due to heavy traffic, you would be eligible for community care.

Reviews of Our Program
Love this program. I showed up in a pretty dark space and with the help of the staff as well as clients we were really able to shed some light on everything. I love this team and what they are doing for us. No smoke! If you need treatment this a great place hands down. Once you’re in you are part of the family and will always have a home. I love you guys so much thank you for everything you have done and are doing. I finally have my life back. Great environment 🙏💙 Jesse WatsonApril 2, 2025 Mikey was one of the best there as soon as I met him I fell in love with his personality, his heart and how much he cares about the client. I’m still in touch to this day going to meetings and it’s all thanks to Mikey took the time to sit down with you privately Worked out details that you needed to be worked out. Got you through rough times when you needed them and was always there to pick the phone up. I can’t say enough about SCC and Mikey. Michael SadlerApril 1, 2025 I cannot say enough good things about South Coast Counseling. From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt supported, understood, and truly cared for. The staff is compassionate, knowledgeable, and dedicated to helping every individual on their journey to recovery. They are down to earth and so easy to talk to and be around, it’s more like a family setting. The program itself is well-structured, offering a combination of therapy, group support, and practical life skills that have been crucial to my success. They remind you of how fun & amazing life can be without mind altering substances. Thanks to South Coast Counseling, I have regained control of my life, rebuilt relationships, and rediscovered hope for the future. If you or a loved one is struggling, I highly recommend this program—it truly saved my life. I’d like to give a special shoutout to Katie Johnson who still checks up on me after 5 years. Elizabeth NapierMarch 19, 2025 I’ve been trying to stay sober through treatment and alcoholic anonymous for years now. I’m so grateful to have finally found a place that cares and is there for me as go through changes and difficult times in my life. Today I’m proud to say I have a year of sobriety, thanks to god, family, AA and the amazing staff of Scc for helping me all the way through. So if you or anyone you know is struggling, don’t hesitate, ask for Katie or Mikey…. Thanks jerrod ontiverosMarch 18, 2025 My experience at SCC was so absolutely amazing from start to finish. I entered into treatment in very poor physical and mental health and I’m so grateful for how accommodating and compassionate the staff was and still is 8 months later. Knowing that I have their ongoing support is invaluable. I cannot recommend this program enough if you or a loved one is seeking treatment. Adrienne NapierMarch 17, 2025 I never thought I’d make it to this point in my life—almost two years sober. There was a time when I truly believed I was beyond saving, that I was too far gone, that no amount of treatment or help would ever fix me. But South Coast Counseling never gave up on me, even when I had given up on myself. I first walked through the doors of South Coast Counseling broken, lost, and completely consumed by my addiction. I was scared, ashamed, and unsure if I even deserved a second chance. But from the very first moment, I felt something different here. The staff didn’t just see my addiction—they saw me. They saw the person underneath the pain, the struggles, and the mistakes. They didn’t judge me. They didn’t look at me as a failure. They simply welcomed me in with open arms and told me I wasn’t alone. But my journey wasn’t a straight path. I relapsed multiple times. I left treatment thinking I could handle it on my own, only to fall back into the same cycle of destruction. I let my addiction win over and over again, and each time I relapsed, the shame got worse. I started to believe I was a lost cause. But every time I hit rock bottom, South Coast Counseling was there, ready to lift me back up. I walked through those doors four different times, each time feeling more defeated than the last. I expected disappointment, maybe even rejection. But that never happened. The staff never judged me, never made me feel like a failure, never gave up on me. Instead, they embraced me with love and understanding and reminded me that my relapses didn’t define me. They told me I was still worthy of recovery, still capable of change, still deserving of a life free from addiction. It was that unwavering support, that unconditional belief in me, that finally helped me break the cycle. The therapy at South Coast Counseling was different from anything I had ever experienced before. They didn’t just focus on my addiction—they helped me dig deep into the why behind it. I had been using drugs and alcohol to escape pain I never knew how to deal with. But here, I learned how to face that pain, process it, and heal from it instead of running from it. The individual counseling sessions, the group therapy, the deep emotional work—I can’t even put into words how much it changed me. And the people… the staff and the other clients became my family when I had no one else. I met people who truly understood what I was going through, people who loved and supported me without judgment. I didn’t feel alone anymore. I wasn’t just surviving—I was healing. And yes, I have to mention the food—because it’s another reason this place is so special. The meals weren’t just something to get through the day; they were nutritious, well-made, and actually enjoyable. That might seem like a small detail, but when you’re in recovery, every little thing that makes you feel human again matters. It’s just another example of how South Coast Counseling truly cares about every aspect of your well-being. Now, here I am, almost two years sober, and I wake up every day grateful—grateful to be alive, grateful to be free, and most of all, grateful that South Coast Counseling never gave up on me. If they hadn’t welcomed me back, if they hadn’t shown me love instead of judgment, if they hadn’t believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself, I honestly don’t know where I’d be today. To anyone out there who is struggling, please know that it’s never too late. I relapsed multiple times. I thought I had failed too many times. I thought I was beyond help. But I wasn’t. And neither are you. South Coast Counseling gave me my life back, and for that, I will be forever grateful. If you are looking for help, if you are feeling hopeless, if you think there is no way out—please, give this place a chance. They saved me, and they can save you, too. Thank you, South Coast Counseling, for never giving up on me—even when I had given up on myself. Because of you, I am finally free. jared van haerenMarch 17, 2025 SCC may have well saved my life. They are a great resource for help with substance abuse or mental health. Staff is great and really care about the clients. Between Mikey, Katie, Brett, David, Jarrod and Jeremy along with many others you are in good hands. Daniel FergusonMarch 16, 2025 June 25th 2020. This is the day I arrived at South Coast and have been sober ever since. I am 100 percent sure that if I started treatment at a different facility, I would NOT be sober today. April, my counselor, and the staff were fantastic and genuinely cared about each individual and their sobriety. I’ve been to other centers and never got the results I received from South Coast. I can’t promise that I will remain sober, but I can promise I will be sober today thanks to South Coast. wayne robertsonMarch 16, 2025 My son has been struggling with alcohol addiction and was completely in free fall when I reached out to South Coast Counseling and met Michael. To all of you parents of addicts out there, I feel your pain. It is such a painful and frightening thing to watch your child be consumed by this disease. We had tried multiple rehabs, but nothing seemed to work and we were running out of options. Michael stepped up to help us, complete strangers, in a big way. He worked tirelessly to get him admitted even though we were coming from hundreds of miles away, helping with transpo and keeping us posted on progress every step of the way. My son felt comfortable with him right away. My son relapsed after his first stay there, but Michael followed up with him and got him back into the program after things went south, and since he has been home he is doing well. Michael still checks in with us to make sure my son is still on track. He genuinely cares and supports him in this journey to recovery. I can't tell you how much my family appreciates him! Thank you South Coast for having this amazing human being on staff. Becky PearsonMarch 15, 2025
