Therapy

Our Therapists are Here to Help

Many struggling with a substance disorder also experience mental health disorders. We provide a dual diagnosis program in which we provide therapy for co-occurring mental health conditions. Therapy sessions are also a great way for those in recovery to develop the skills they need to stay sober and navigate life outside their time at South Coast Counseling.

Types of Therapy Programs

Therapy does not have a one-size-fits-all approach. This is why we offer a variety of therapeutic modalities that cater to an individual’s needs and circumstances:

Individual, Group, and Family Therapy

Those staying at South Coast Counseling will engage with a therapist 1-on-1, in a group of peers, and/or with family members or loved ones. Family therapy is a type of therapy that involves working with the entire family unit to address relational and behavioral issues. It has been shown to be effective in treating a range of mental health issues, including substance use disorders, eating disorders, and mood disorders

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy is a type of therapy that focuses on exploring unconscious patterns of thought and behavior, and how they relate to current symptoms. It has been shown to be effective in treating a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and personality disorders.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a goal-oriented and structured therapy that typically involves short-term treatment. During CBT sessions, the therapist works collaboratively with the client to identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs that are contributing to distress or problematic behaviors. The therapist helps the client to develop more realistic and adaptive ways of thinking and coping with difficult situations.

Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a structured and goal-oriented therapy that aims to help individuals develop skills to manage their emotions, cope with stress, and improve relationships. It emphasizes the balance between acceptance and change, and focuses on helping individuals identify and regulate their emotions without resorting to self-destructive behaviors.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a type of psychotherapy that is used to treat individuals who have experienced trauma. The therapist helps the client identify and process negative beliefs and emotions related to the traumatic event, and helps the client develop more positive beliefs and emotions. The goal of EMDR is to help the client process the traumatic event in a way that is adaptive and helps them move forward. EMDR is a structured and evidence-based therapy that typically involves 8-12 sessions. It is generally considered to be a safe and effective therapy, but it may not be appropriate for everyone.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)

REBT is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It is based on the idea that our thoughts and beliefs can influence our emotions and behaviors, and that by identifying and challenging irrational beliefs, we can reduce emotional distress and improve our overall functioning.
